1 person arrested after crews put out fire started near Columbia Park duck pond

A person was arrested for starting a fire that burned a small section of brush in Columbia Park, according to police.

Firefighters were called to the park about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday about a fire near the duck pond along Paul Parish Drive. When firefighters arrived they discovered less than an acre burning, Kennewick Fire Chief Chad Michael said.

They put out the fire in about 10 minutes. No people or animals were hurt and the nearby shelter was not damaged.

The suspect was still at the scene and was arrested but the person’s name has not been released, Kennewick Police Sgt. Steve Thatsana said.

Clean up crews already already had away most of the burned brush by the afternoon.
