A threat to blow up the park near the Union Street branch of Mid-Columbia Libraries resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old man, according to Kennewick police.

Police were called Saturday to the 1600 block of South Union for a report of a man with Molotov cocktails threatening to blow up the nearby park.

Two men were at the suspect’s truck and one ran when police tried to detain him.

He was found a short time later and arrested on a warrant for his arrest as a suspected sex offender from Texas and for resisting arrest.

The second man, Dominic Hoffman, 42, was arrested after a search of his truck found two Molotov cocktails, according to police reports.

Hoffman was booked into the Benton County jail at 9:40 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of possession of an explosive device and felony harassment.
