Woman killed, 5 hurt in Highway 14 crash south of the Tri-Cities
A 35-year-old Redmond woman is dead and five others were hurt when a pickup ran a stop sign in southern Benton County early Friday.
Edith Moreno Colin was a passenger in a GMC Sierra heading south on Plymouth Road just before 4:30 a.m., the Washington State Patrol said.
The Sierra ran the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 14 and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup pulling a boat on a trailer, the state patrol said. Moreno Colin died at the scene.
The intersection is just north of the rural community of Plymouth, which is on the Columbia River in southern Benton County across the Columbia River from Oregon.
The Sierra’s driver Gabriela Moreno Colin, 33, of Bellevue, and the two other passengers, Mynor A Castrillo Lorenzo, 26 and Carlos Vidal Moreno, 27, both of Bellevue, were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
The driver and passenger in the Ford — Aaron J Weets, 42, and an 11-year-old boy, both of Grandview — also were taken to the hospital.
The conditions of the patients were not immediately available Friday afternoon.
Everyone was wearing their seat belts.
The investigation closed both directions of Highway 14 around the intersection for about four hours. It opened up around 8:30 a.m.
