A Benton County deputy had minor injuries after a collision at an intersection south of Kennewick.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital to be checked out after her patrol SUV and a Buick sedan collided at the corner of 27th Avenue and Oak Street shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

The deputy was heading east on 27th Avenue when she stopped at the Oak Street intersection, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

When the patrol SUV drove into the intersection, the Buick sedan ran a stop sign and hit the SUV, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy had scrapes and bruises from the crash, Lt. Jason Erickson told the Herald. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The woman driving the Buick declined any medical help at the scene. Someone was changing the front tire at the scene with hopes of driving the car away this morning.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating how the crash occurred, Erickson said.

The state patrol is often called in to investigate crashes involving police officers.
