The bronze cougar that stood watch by the Columbia River at the north end of Richland’s Howard Amon Park has disappeared.

Park users reported the cougar statue, with muscles ripping and feet balanced on rocks, was missing when Richland city offices opened Friday morning.

Richland Parks & Recreation has filed a police report and anyone with information is asked to call 509-628-0333.

“Oh, no! My family loves that. It’s been a favorite destination for our kids since it was installed,” one person posted on the Richland Parks & Rec Facebook page.

A few people posted that given the timing just before graduation weekend, it possibly was taken as a senior prank.

For whatever reason it has gone missing, the city wants it back, Parks & Rec posted.
