Bomb threat triggers lockdown at Hanford High school

Hanford High School locked down after someone claimed there was a bomb at the school.

Richland police received a call about the explosive just before 9 a.m. Friday, Richland Commander Darryl Judge said.

They notified the school, which went into a “critical lockdown,” meaning doors to classrooms and the outside were locked, according to a Richland School District notice.

Police soon realized that the room where the bomb was supposed to be didn’t exist.

A search of the building didn’t turn up any evidence of a bomb, police said.

The school came out of lockdown at 9:30 p.m.

Police haven’t been able to track down the source of the phone call yet. Richland police are continuing to investigate.
