UPDATE: 22-year-old man shot in Kennewick apartment identified

A 22-year-old man is dead and another man is in jail after someone fired a gun in an apartment on Monday night.

The Benton County Coroner’s Office released the identity of the man as Beckett Smith. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Kennewick police were called to an apartment on the 1300 block of West 10th Avenue near Park Middle School at 10:40 p.m.

Someone called 911 after hearing a single gunshot and then screaming, according to Kennewick police and dispatch reports.

There was reports of a woman yelling for help and the shouts of “he was dying,” according to dispatch reports.

When they arrived, they found a man shot and wounded in his side. He was taken to an area hospital but died.

The victim’s name has yet to be released. Officials are waiting for family members to be notified.

Jawan Osby, 27, of Fircrest, was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter.
