Tri-Cities father arrested in death of 5-week-old son

A Richland father was jailed Friday night in the death of his 5-week-old son.

The injured baby was brought to an emergency room by his parents on Sept. 24.

But when medical officials determined the boy was already dead, Richland police were called, said a Friday night news release.

An Oct. 1 autopsy determined the baby suffered several significant injuries, including a skull fracture, bleeding under the scalp, multiple broken ribs and a damaged liver, said police.

Detectives determined that the boy’s biological father, 28-year-old Jose L. Rosas Olivo was responsible for injuring the baby, said the release.

Rosas Olivo was booked into the Benton County jail in Kennewick about 6:20 p.m. Friday on investigation of first-degree assault of a child.

The investigation is continuing and Richland detectives are waiting for a final report from the medical examiner, said the release.
