Wrong-way drunk driver nearly hits Benton deputy’s car near blue bridge

A suspected drunk driver landed in jail after driving the wrong way on Highway 240 early Friday and nearly hitting a Benton County sheriff’s patrol car head-on.

A deputy spotted the pickup hauling a UTV nearly hit two vehicles on the highway before narrowly missing the deputy’s SUV near the blue bridge.

The driver kept going but pulled off the highway.

Kennewick police and a Washington State Patrol trooper then helped the deputy stop the truck at the corner of Canal Drive and Edison Street, Kennewick police posted on Facebook.

The driver was arrested and booked for DUI. His name was not released by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office or Kennewick police.
