Motorcyclist on the run after high-speed Kennewick crash leaves woman critically hurt
A woman is in critical condition and a motorcycle driver is on the run after crashing while trying to flee from police.
A Kennewick officer spotted the speeding motorcycle going the opposite direction on Canal Drive near North Fisher Street just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. The officer turned around to pull it over and the motorcycle sped away, said a police Facebook post.
The officer did not give chase because of the potential danger of a crash but could see the motorcycle lose control on a curve near Carmichael Street, according to police and scanner reports.
A woman riding on the bike was thrown and seriously hurt. She was rushed to Trios Southridge Hospital and then flown to a hospital out of the area.
Officers used a police dog to search the neighborhood for the driver, who is believed to be a man, but no one was found.
Surrounding streets were shut down for several hours with the Kennewick police traffic unit investigated.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333.
