Teen speedster clocked going 126 mph on Canal Drive in Kennewick

A teenage driver was arrested after going 126 mph on Canal Drive before losing control and crashing into a curb.

A Kennewick police officer spotted the Subaru WRX speeding on Canal Drive near Vancouver Street at 10 p.m. Monday, Kennewick police said on Facebook.

After the officer’s radar clocked the driver going 126 mph, he turned on his emergency lights and siren to pull him over.

But the teen accelerated out of sight. After searching the area for several minutes, police discovered the abandoned car where it hit a curb near Lyle Street.

Police later tracked down the 17-year-old driver, and he was booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of attempting to elude police, a felony.
