Pasco parents charged in construction site brawl caught on video
The mother and father who joined two teens in attacking three men in a construction site brawl are facing felony charges.
Godfrey D. Davis, 44, and Kaymesha L. Hanson, 41, are charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree assault for their part in the Aug. 26. fight.
The melee on Remington Drive was caught on video and posted on Facebook, and drew even more attention when the victim, David Smith, claimed it was racially motivated.
An attorney representing the couple said Davis and Hanson were the victims of racially motivated slurs.
But Pasco police said the confrontation was about a parking problem.
Detective Chris Caicedo wrote in court documents that the workers had an ongoing dispute with Davis, Hanson and the two teens about the workers parking on the street in front of their home.
Tri-Cities Concrete supervisor Nicholas P. Reihs told police the fight started with Davis and his 14-year-old sons yelling at the workers after they parked there. Reihs said he yelled back.
A doorbell camera shows Davis start the argument, and then he was joined by the two teenagers, said the documents. After a few minutes, Davis and the boys start to walk away but more words were exchanged, and the two boys turned around and started back toward the construction site.
The video also showed Davis try to call them back before the fight started, but they didn’t listen, said the documents.
Shortly after the punching and pushing started, Davis and Hanson joined in, claim the documents. The four surrounded David Smith, one of the workers. Police say the cellphone video shows all four start punching, kicking, choking and stomping on Smith as he yells for help.
The fight left Smith with a broken eye socket bone, a concussion, a cut on his face and bruised ribs, according to court records.
A third man, David Cotton, tried to step in and distract the four from Smith with a rake. Hanson and the two teens allegedly push him into a garage, where one of the teens punched him several times in the face.
Davis and Hanson are out of jail on their personal recognizance.
