Freight train smashes 4-wheeler stuck on tracks east of Kennewick

A train collided with a 4-wheeler stuck on the railroad tracks near Hover Park east of Kennewick on Saturday night.

No one was on the Polaris RZR when the train smashed into it about 8 p.m., said a Benton County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

However, the tracks needed to be inspected before other trains could be allowed to pass.

“We would like to remind everyone that the railroad tracks are private property and closed for any other use,” said the post.

The driver of the quad runner is facing possible second-degree trespassing charges and may have to pay the cost of the track damage, said the sheriff’s office.
