Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened during a traffic stop on the Interstate 182 ramp from Road 68 in Pasco on Thursday.

By noon Friday, police had not released any details about what crime the man was suspected of, what condition he is in or if he was treated and jailed. Coroner officials said they had not been notified of a death.

On Thursday, Street Crime Unit detectives were looking for a man in his 30s for a crime in Kennewick, when they spotted the suspect in a car in the area about 3 p.m., said Pasco Sgt. Rigo Pruneda.

After the suspect car was stopped, a Pasco detective shot the suspect, said police.

Investigators have not released any information about why the detective shot the man.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

No officer was injured, said a police Facebook post.

The circumstances of the shooting are being investigated by the regional Special Investigations Unit, which is made up of detectives from area police agencies. Pasco police are not part of the investigation.

Richland Capt. Brigit Clary is leading the investigation.

No information had been released by noon Friday on who is heading the investigation.

The Road 68 overpass across I-182 was closed in both directions after the shooting and traffic was detoured during the investigation.

The closure caused backups where Burden Boulevard and Road 44 intersect with Argent Road and at Road 100 as drivers tried to find other ways around the shooting scene.
