15-year-old driver leads police on chase in stolen SUV through Pasco

A 15-year-old led police a high-speed chase through two Pasco neighborhoods in a stolen SUV.

Officer Andy Taylor first spotted the white Chevy Blazer driving erratically in the area of Court Street and 14th Avenue just after midnight on Monday, Pasco police said in a Facebook post. When he checked the license plate, he learned it was stolen.

When he tried stopping it, the teen raced away. He first made a loop through 14th Avenue, Clark Avenue and 10th Avenue before heading west along Highway 395 and Interstate 182.

The teen then turned off on Road 68 and raced through neighborhoods on Chapel Hill Boulevard, said police. He turned back onto the interstate and then back onto Highway 395 headed for the blue bridge.

By the time he made it to the base of the blue bridge, Washington State Patrol troopers were ready with spike strips. Two of the Blazer’s tires popped, and the stolen SUV stopped on the Kennewick side of the bridge at 1 a.m.

The 15-year-old driver was booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of attempting to elude police and possessing a stolen vehicle. The 16-year-old passenger was sent home to his parents.

Inside the SUV, officers found a .357-caliber revolver with a round that had been fired.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Pasco police at 509-628-0333 or email Taylor at taylora@pasco-wa.gov.
