Teen tosses shirt, shoes and gun running from Pasco police

A teen shed his shirt, shoes and a gun as he tried to escape officers after a fight near Pasco High School, police said.

Pasco police were called to a report of an assault involving two people about 3 p.m. Tuesday near 14th Avenue and Henry Street, Pasco police said in a Facebook post.

A description of the teen led officers to a 16-year-old at the corner of 12th Avenue and Margaret Street near the high school.

When the officer tried stopping him, he dashed away, running through yards. Along the way, he pulled off his outer shorts, his shoes, and his T-shirt. Police said he was finally caught in his gym shorts.

He was initially turned over to his parents, but as officers retraced his steps, they discovered a gun on a concrete pad in one of the yards.

And a magazine for the gun was found in a neighboring yard. The gun and the magazine were sent to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab for testing.

The teen ended up being arrested for unlawful gun possession and booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center in Kennewick.
