Richland firefighters investigate blaze that destroyed a vacant home and damaged another

Firefighters are investigating a two-alarm fire that tore through a Richland home early Thursday.

The fire broke out at in a shed behind a two-story house on the 1300 block of Thayer Drive shortly after 12:30 a.m. The blaze spread to a fence, a trampoline and to the vacant home, according to dispatch reports.

The home was surrounded by an accumulation of items, which led firefighters to protect the nearby houses, said Battalion Chief James Hempstead.

The heat damaged the siding and windows of a neighboring house on the 1300 block of Symons Street.

Richland firefighters stayed on the scene until late in the morning. The cause is unknown.

Firefighters from Pasco, Kennewick, Hanford, and Benton County Fire Districts 1, 2 and 4 helped battle the fire.

No one was hurt.
