1 arrested after former Kennewick couple get into standoff

A 29-year-old woman was arrested after police said she threatened to shoot her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

Cynthia Mendoza was arguing with her 28-year-old ex-boyfriend in the 1600 block of West First Avenue around 10:46 a.m. Friday.

As they fought, Mendoza brandished a gun and threatened her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend, who was at the scene, Kennewick police said.

The man grabbed his own gun and, after a brief standoff, one of them shot a vehicle.

Police were initially called to the area after a report that the man had shot at his ex-girlfriend’s truck but after tracking him down, they learned more about what happened.

Mendoza was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 509-628-0333.
