Drive-by shooting on Pasco’s I-182 leaves at least one wounded

Pasco police are investigating a Thursday evening drive-by shooting on Interstate 182 that stopped all westbound traffic for more than four hours.

Initial reports said at least one person was wounded while driving on the highway near Road 44.

No more details had been released by police as of early Friday afternoon.

It is not clear if the highway shooting is connected to earlier reports of shots fired near Richardson Park.

That report came in about 5 p.m. The park is off 20th Avenue, just south of an I-182 on-ramp.

Word that shots had been fired at a car on the highway, west of 20th Avenue, came in a short time later.

Police first announced at 5:30 p.m. that traffic was stacking up between 20th and Road 68 and told drivers to avoid the highway’s westbound lanes, said the department’s Facebook post.

Traffic on Highway 395 also was affected.

The Washington State Patrol and Pasco officers closed the westbound lanes while they investigated the highway shooting and collected evidence. Motorists stuck in the standstill were turned around, and other drivers were alerted to avoid the area or diverted to Highway 240 in Kennewick.

Westbound lanes reopened at 10 p.m. Thursday.

The condition of the person who was wounded is not available.
