Tri-Cities animal control looking for answers after 2 cats found killed

Tri-Cities animal control officials are warning cat owners to be cautious after two cats were found killed in the past week.

Kennewick police alerted Tri-Cities Animal Shelter and Control Services after one of the cats was found beheaded near the owner’s property near Costco.

Then last night, another cat was found mutilated near Vancouver Street and 37th Avenue, said the shelter’s Facebook post. Officials said a sharp object appears to have been used in both deaths.

Anyone with information about the deaths or security camera footage, or if you find a dead cat or dog in Pasco, Kennewick or Richland, you’re asked to call animal control at 509-545-3740.

The shelter suggest people monitor their cats and, if they let them out, to use a leash or screened porch.

“No matter where you live, if you own a cat and allow them to roam, they could be in danger,” the shelter said in its post. “They are at risk to catch diseased, attacks by dogs and other predators, being hit by vehicles and vulnerable to cruel people who torture and kill cats.”
