Driver opens fire on two people after Pasco traffic collision, prosecutors say
What started as a traffic collision ended with a man opening fire in a Pasco neighborhood.
Raymond L. Gaines was driving behind a man and a teen girl as they headed west on A Street just after 9:45 p.m. on May 10, according to police.
When the first driver slowed to take a left, Gaines, 55, of Burbank hit them from behind. Instead of stopping, he drove around their car and struck it a second time on the passenger’s side, according to court records.
The other driver started following Gaines onto Heritage Boulevard where he pulled to the side of the road, got out of his car holding a pistol and shot at the two.
The other driver put the car into reverse and fled, before calling police.
Police initially didn’t find Gaines at home. He turned up there on Thursday, and was booked into the Franklin County jail.
Prosecutors charged Gaines with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault for hitting them with the car.
Each count alleges that he was armed with a deadly weapon at the time, an aggravating factor that could mean extra jail time. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
