Late night Taurus test drive lands a Pasco woman in jail
A Pasco woman was arrest after she tried outrunning a police officer during a test drive.
Julieta Lopez, 28, was looking to buy a 1996 Ford Taurus from a private owner when she took it for a test drive at 11 p.m. Monday.
Pasco police said Lopez’s drive started running into problems when she cut off two cars making a left onto Court Street.
The Taurus came close enough to force one driver to slam on the brakes to avoid crashing, said police. That caught the attention of Officer Kierra Peoples, who tried to stop the Taurus, but Lopez took off.
Peoples chased her as Lopez ran stop signs on 18th Avenue before running out of road near the 700 block of Agate Street and rolling to a stop against a fence.
Lopez was booked into the Franklin County jail on investigation of driving with a suspended license and attempting to elude police.
When police checked on whether the car was stolen, they learned the owner was looking to sell it and had let Lopez take it for a drive.
Anyone with more information is asked to call Pasco police through the non-emergency dispatch number 509-628-0333.
