Student arrested after threatening to shoot people at Delta High School in Pasco
A 15-year-old Delta High student was arrested after someone threatened Delta High School on social media.
Other students learned that the teen was planning a shooting at the school on an upcoming Friday, and they told Pasco police, said Sgt. Rigo Pruneda.
Investigators tracked down the boy, and he was arrested for making the threats.
He didn’t have access to any weapons, they said.
Delta High School administrators learned about the message about 9 p.m. Thursday. They called Pasco police and learned officers were already looking into the threats, according to a Facebook post from the school district.
Privacy concerns prevent the school district from commenting on whether the student was emergency expelled, said Shane Edinger, the district spokesman. Though the district’s standard procedures in these situations call for the students to go through an emergency expulsion.
Delta is an innovative STEM high school that takes students from throughout the Tri-Cities.
“We want to thank the community member who reported the information to police and school administrators,” district officials said. “If you see or hear something that’s concerning, please say something to school or district administrators or report it to police. The safety of our students and staff members is our highest priority.”
