2 students arrested after 60 Southridge High windows shot, houses and cars damaged
Two high school students are accused of going on a BB gun shooting spree in south Kennewick early Tuesday.
More than 60 windows at Southridge High School were damaged, along with about 20 houses and cars, said Kennewick police.
Kennewick police used residential and school security cameras to identify two 16-year-old Southridge students as suspects in the vandalism.
The two were arrested by mid-afternoon Tuesday and booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of first-degree malicious mischief, according to Kennewick police.
Police also had been looking for a light-colored sedan that was seen on surveillance video and was believed to be connected to the incidents.
The boys were in a similar car when they were arrested, according to Kennewick police.
Kennewick Lt. Aaron Clem said the windows at the school and homes that were shot at with a BB gun will likely cost thousands of dollars to repair.
Much of the damage was done between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. from Vancouver Street to Southridge High School in the Canyon Lakes and Southridge neighborhoods.
Vandals also damaged windows at the high school five different times during the holiday break. Staff found them when they came in to work.
Police are asking anyone with video cameras in the areas to check for any footage of the vandals.
The school district is working on replacing the broken windows, said Robyn Chastain, the district’s executive director of communications and public relations. Classes haven’t been affected, she said.
People with information should contact the Kennewick Police Department through non-emergency dispatch at 509-628-0333.
