Kennewick police to step up school patrols after high school shooting threat

Extra officers will keep an eye on Southridge High School on Friday after someone scrawled a threat on a bathroom wall.

On Wednesday morning, a janitor found someone wrote, “I’m going to shoot up the school Friday” in black marker on a bathroom stall.

He reported it to administrators who brought it to the attention of Kennewick police, Southridge administrators said on Facebook.

After reviewing footage from security cameras, administrators and police weren’t able to identify anyone who went into the bathroom to leave the note.

“At this point the police are not able to find the threat credible,” they said. “As a precaution, we will have an extra police presence at the school on Friday, Dec. 20,” Southridge administrators said.

Administrators take all threats seriously and the safety of students and staff are their highest priority, they said.
