Pasco teen died from multiple gunshot wounds after stabbing officers, autopsy finds

An autopsy Thursday confirmed that a Pasco teen who stabbed two police officers Saturday died from several gunshot wounds.

While blood test results are still pending, Franklin County Coroner Curtis McGary said Alejandro Betancourt-Mendoza, 18, died after being shot.

Police were called to his home on North 18th Drive on Saturday night, and 15 minutes after they arrived, police reported two officers had been stabbed and the suspect was shot. The teen died that night.

Two of the three officers involved in the violent confrontation were treated at Lourdes Medical Center for cuts and stab wounds and are recovering at home. The three officers involved are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, pending the results of an independent investigation.

The reason for the 911 call and details about what happened have not been released because the case has been turned over to the Tri-City Special Investigations Unit.

The unit with specially trained detectives from different law enforcement agencies is called in whenever there is a shooting involving an officer.

Betancourt-Mendoza’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help his mother with funeral expenses.
