Kennewick woman hurt after crashing into an elk

A Kennewick woman was hurt after hitting an elk in the middle of Highway 124 outside of Prescott.

Yvonne L. Bloom, 68, was heading east in a 2010 Kia Soul around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when she hit the animal in the road, the Washington State Patrol said.

Bloom was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla. Her passenger, Kenneth J. Bloom, 63, of Kennewick, was not hurt.

The elk died.

An adult elk can weigh 400 to 800 pounds, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
