Kennewick police increasing patrols at middle school after threat

Kennewick police will have more officers around Highlands Middle School on Wednesday after a student threatened to shoot up the school.

Police began investigating after learning about the threat Tuesday night, according to Highlands Middle School officials.

Officers soon discovered the student behind the message and told administrators the youth wouldn’t be in class Wednesday.

They are increasing patrols around the school as a precaution.

Officers are determining if the child will face charges.
