Man tries hiding from Prosser police after stabbing a friend in the chest
A Sunnyside man stabbed a 61-year-old friend in the chest late Monday night before trying to barricade himself in a trailer.
Prosser police found the victim and the suspect, Jose Rangel, 41, at the Barn RV Park at 490 Wine Country Road around 10:30 p.m, said Officer Mark Cole. The victim was taken to a local hospital with a wound that was not life-threatening.
Rangel has violated a court order to stay away from the RV park several times in the past, Cole said.
After officers arrived, Rangel ran into the trailer and barricaded the door. Police talked him into coming outside, but he still refused to comply with other commands. Officers shot him with two bean bags as he tried running back inside.
He was arrested and treated for minor injuries before he was taken to the Benton County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Grandview police and the Washington State Patrol helped Prosser officers with the incident.
