Crash knocks out 3 traffic lights at one of Kennewick’s busiest intersections

Drivers won’t be able to take a left at one of Kennewick’s busiest intersections until a traffic light is fixed.

A car slammed into a pickup Chevy pickup at the Columbia Center Boulevard and Deschutes Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The collision sent the pickup careening into a power pole.

The damage knocked out three sets of traffic lights in the area of Sporthaus and the Grandridge Apartments.

One person was taken to Trios Southridge Hospital for a case of shock, said Officer Zachariah Armitage.

The power surge left the traffic signal’s wiring and control panel seriously damaged, said city spokeswoman Evelyn Lusignan. City crews returned to the area Wednesday morning to continue repairs.

The intersection is now a four-way stop and no left turns are allowed in any direction.
