Apparently ‘finders, keepers’ not a legal defense for shopping spree

A lost debit card allegedly turned into a shopping spree for the Pasco woman who discovered it.

Police put out word about the woman Sunday morning, after Mary M. Hargrove, 40, picked up a lost debit card, likely from the west Pasco RV park where the card owner believed she dropped it, Sgt. Chad Pettijohn said.

Instead of trying to return the card, Hargrove allegedly began shopping, visiting Albertsons, Lowes and Goodwill sometime after 7 p.m. on Friday. She charged about $150 total, and included clothing, laundry detergent and dryer sheets.

“We, at the Pasco police, do understand the importance of washing clothes, and dryer sheets are great, but don’t use someone else’s hard-earned money to purchase those, and other items,” officers posted on their Facebook page.

Officers identified Hargrove and caught up with her Sunday afternoon. She was booked into the Franklin County jail on an investigative hold for forgery.
