A burglary turned into a standoff at a Prosser home Tuesday night.

Benton County Sheriff’s officials said a 38-year-old man broke into a home in the area of Johnson and Missimer roads Tuesday.

Residents alerted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office around 5:30 p.m. and deputies tracked the suspect to a home on Johnson Road about five blocks away.

The suspect went upstairs and barricaded himself in the attic.

Deputies used pepper spray to subdue the man and arrest him around 9 p.m.

The sheriff’s office didn’t release the man’s name.

Prosser police and West Benton Fire Rescue assisted.
