This argument started with gang signs. It ended with gun blasts in Toppenish.
A Monday night shootout in Toppenish ended with a police chase and several arrests.
Toppenish police say the incident began with several people arguing and flashing gang signs a little before 11 p.m. Monday in the Western Gas parking lot.
The occupants in an older Honda Accord and a newer Dodge Ram then began firing at each other, police said.
An officer near the area saw the Honda pull out of the parking lot and saw damage consistent with gunfire.
When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver took off. Video from the officer’s dashboard camera show the driver weaving in front of him before missing a turn and ending up in a field.
The video ends with several officers drawing their guns on the car and rushing it.
The pickup didn’t escape, either.
Toppenish police said they arrested the passenger in front of the gas station, and the driver drove past the crime scene while officers were working.
He was arrested a short distance away.
No one was reported injured.
