Officers got reports Saturday afternoon that Mario Diaz, 29, was running around shirtless, jumping fences and damaging property in a neighborhood south of Maya Angelou Elementary School.

Officer Raul Cavazos responded and confronted Diaz, who didn’t listen and kept running.

Cavazos caught up with Diaz again, and the two fought. Cavazos then tried to stun Diaz with a Taser, but it didn’t work, and the fighting resumed.

After more struggling, Cavazos and a couple homeowners finally pinned Diaz. Two more officers had to help handcuff him.

Neighbors accused Diaz of barging into homes across two blocks and crossing three streets — Wenatchee Court, Canyon Drive and Okanogan Lane.

Police booked Diaz into the Franklin County jail on suspicion of third-degree assault, second-degree burglary and residential burglary. The jail’s roster Tuesday did not show him as an inmate.
