UPDATE: 1 semi slams into another, trapping driver south of Kennewick

A semi driver was trapped for more than an hour Friday morning when his truck was rammed by another semi in the fog southwest of Kennewick.

Benton County Fire District 1 rescue crews managed to pull him free and get him to a hospital, though his condition was not immediately available.

The 9 a.m. collision was at the intersection of South Plymouth Road and East Locust Grove Road.

The intersection of Locust Grove and Clodfelter Road remains closed while the wreckage is removed, said Benton County Sheriff’s deputies.

Rachel Shaw saw the crash as it happened. She and her 8-year-old son left their home on Gwinn Road to head to a piano lesson.

As they neared the intersection, they saw a truck had missed its turn and was stuck in the gravel on the side of the road. She pulled over and called 911.

A second driver stopped to talk with Shaw and they just pulled back from the area when a second semi truck, heading north on Plymouth Road, rammed into the first truck.

The driver of the second truck was freed and taken to a hospital, said Tracy Baker, Benton County Fire District 1’s public information officer.

The man appeared able to get to the ambulance with help from emergency workers.
