Fleeing man jumps from overpass, gets hit on I-84

The Sun News File

Police are looking for the vehicle that hit a 28-year-old Portland man after he jumped from the Tower Road overpass onto Interstate 84 near Boardman on Thursday.

The man was found dead on the shoulder of the interstate about 130 feet east of the overpass, according to the Oregon State Police.

Police began to investigate when they received a report of a minor collision between a white commercial vehicle and a gold Ford Ranger at about 3:06 a.m. Thursday. It was on the westbound Tower Road off-ramp

Information from the driver of the commercial vehicle and evidence at the scene indicated the driver of the Ford ran from his vehicle toward the overpass, scaled the fence and then jumped, according to police reports.

He appeared to have been hit by a vehicle, which may have had dark metallic gray paint, according to police reports. It did not stop.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oregon State Police dispatch at 541-276-2121 and reference incident No. SP17409491.
