Police seek help finding Eastern Oregon deer poacher
Oregon wildlife officers are asking for help to find the poacher who shot a mule deer buck near La Grande and left it to rot.
Only the antlers and skull cap were removed from the deer, according to the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division.
On Oct. 28, an elk hunter found the carcass in the Starkey Wildlife Management Unit in Union County near Dark Canyon to the west of the Spring Creek area off Interstate 84.
The deer likely was shot between the evening of Oct. 27 and the morning of Oct. 28, according to police reports.
The only hunting season that was open was for Rocky Mountain elk.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Senior Trooper Kris Davis at the La Grande Patrol Office at 541-805-4757 or by calling the Turn in Poachers hotline at 800-452-7888.
