State police investigating Umatilla inmate’s death
An Oregon inmate died after being found unresponsive in the cell of a Umatilla prison.
Employees found Benjamin Yzaguirre, 64, at 9:39 p.m. Saturday. Secuirty and medical staff began trying to save his life. Umatilla emergency medical technicians continued the efforts as he was taken to a local hospital, where he died at 10:55 p.m., the Oregon Department of Corrections said.
Yzaguirre was convicted of rape and sodomy in Marion County, and became a prisoner in July 2015. He was expected to serve until June 2021.
The Oregon State Police are investigating the death.
