Pasco has scheduled its second special water flushing to help maintain the quality of city water.

The next flushings will start Wednesday in zone 31, which includes several houses and a few businesses west of Mercier Park and near Cable Bridge Mini Storage. Most daily flushing procedures will be planned Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The process, known as unidirectional flushing, cleanses the pipes’ inner walls and removes any debris inside, the city said. The process has been refined over several years and involves opening fire hydrants and closing valves under controlled conditions.

Customers may notice drops in water pressure or discolored water, but the discoloration is not hazardous, the city said.

Anyone who sees water discoloration for longer than 5 or 10 minutes is asked to call the City of Pasco public works, water distribution division at 509-545-3463.
