Atomic bombing to be marked with Richland peace ceremony Aug. 9
World Citizens for Peace in planning a public ceremony to mark the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, using plutonium produced at Hanford.
The Atomic Cities Peace Memorial is set for 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Lee Landing, at the end of Lee Boulevard in Richland’s Howard Amon Park.
A one-hour program of song, speech and prayer will remember the past with hope for the future.
The Bell of Peace, a gift from the mayor of Nagasaki to the people of Richland, will be rung in memory of Americans who died at Pearl Harbor and Japanese who who died in Nagasaki.
