Hanford worker comes to the rescue on Hawaiian vacation — twice

Glenn Walley may have helped save a life — twice— during a vacation to Hawaii.

The Mission Support Alliance financial analyst was one of five employees of the Hanford contractor honored this summer with safety awards.

Walley was on a beach when he noticed a person struggling in the water and helped bring the woman onto the sand.

On the same vacation, he and three other people helped when a man was spotted submerged in the water with an apparent shark bite on his shoulder. Walley called 911 and warned others to stay out of the water because of the risk of sharks.

Walley, Rod Briscoe and Vince Leffler were given MSA President Bill Johnson’s Lifesaving Award.

Briscoe was driving to work when he saw a motorcycle on its side and its rider in the road. He parked his truck in front of the rider to protect him from oncoming traffic and cared for him until emergency responders arrived.

Leffler acted quickly to get medical attention for a person who seemed disoriented.

In addition, Cinda Guenther and Jan Seely were recognized with the Outreach Award by the Region 10 Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association. They turned power tool shipping containers that would have been thrown out into vehicle emergency safety kits.
