Richland woman injured in three-car pileup on Highway 240

A Richland woman who was injured in a three-car chain collision Saturday afternoon was charged with causing the pileup by following another vehicle too closely.

The Washington State Patrol said the wreck occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Highway 240 near Columbia Park Trail, in Kennewick.

Barbara Faulkner, 71, rear-ended a vehicle that had slowed for a third vehicle, the state patrol said. The third vehicle had stopped because of unidentified debris in the road. The force of the collision pushed the second car into the stopped one.

Faulkner was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. The drivers of the two vehicles that were struck were not injured.
