Newhouse is grand marshal in Pasco July 4 parade
U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse will serve as grand marshal for this year’s Grand Old 4th Parade in Pasco.
The Sunnyside Republican — who is in a five-way race to retain his seat representing Washington’s 4th Congressional District — said it’s an honor to be in one of the largest celebrations of Independence Day in Central Washington.
“Parades celebrate the many ways we as Americans live out our freedom,” Newhouse said in an email.
“Whether it’s seeing the Boy Scouts show off their patches or a local church group walking in fellowship, the students in FFA marching or others participating on a sports team or marching band — this weekend celebrates the freedoms we hold dear as Americans. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it.”
The parade, sponsored by HAPO Community Credit Union, is one of several July 4 festivities on Monday in Pasco.
The days starts at 7 a.m. with the Kiwanis pancake breakfast at Memorial Park, 350 N. 14th Ave., and ends with 10 p.m. fireworks at Gesa Stadium.
A preparade kids street dance is at 9:15 a.m. along 14th Avenue, followed by the 10 a.m. parade.
