Kennewick driver seriously injured in rollover crash

A Kennewick driver was seriously injured in a rollover crash early Saturday morning, police said.

Emilio A. Mendoza, 18, drove his father’s Chevy Tahoe eastbound on West 4th Avenue about 12:15 a.m. at a high rate of speed, through the center area of the roundabout at Kellogg, police said. The vehicle rolled several times and Mendoza was ejected.

Mendoza was taken to Trios Health in Kennewick and then flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, police said. He suffered a fractured hip and leg.

A 17-year-old female passenger was inside the SUV and was treated and later released at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, police said.

Speed and driver impairment are believed to have contributed to the accident, police said.
