The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a tornado warning for west central Union County in northeastern Oregon and south central Umatilla County until 3:15 p.m.

Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is coming through the region near Pendleton.

This dangerous storm was 30 miles southeast of Heppner and moving northeast at 30 mph, said the weather service.

This type of storm has a history of producing golf ball size hail and winds of more than 60 mph.

Residents should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are in a mobile

home or outdoors move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris, said the weather service.
