3-block-long water slide again planned for Richland
Lee Boulevard in Richland will be turned into a 1,000-foot slip-and-slide on July 23, according to private company Slide the City.
People can ride inner tubes down three city blocks, from Thayer Drive to Wellsian Way, according to the company. Cost starts at $10.
The company announced a similar event last year but failed to get the required permits and it did not happen.
“Tri Cities is an awesome addition to our schedule,” said John Malfatto, Slide the City co-owner, in a release.
The state Department of Health confirmed Wednesday it issued a permit for the Richland slide as well as permits for similar slides in Seattle and Spokane.
The city of Richland approved the street closure for the slide last year and doesn’t anticipate any issue with this year’s closure request, said Justin Brown, the city’s Parks and Recreation coordinator.
Kids must be over age 5 and 46 inches tall to slide.
Online registration is open now at www.slidethecity.com/location/tri-cities.
Costs increase after June 17.
