Pasco firefighters train at Moses Lake airport
Pasco firefighters recently participated in live burn exercises at Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake.
The burn exercises and classroom instruction are part of the aircraft rescue firefighting program offered at Big Bend Community College for firefighters from Pasco and Lewiston.
The aircraft rescue firefighting school has operated at the college for more than 40 years. Fire departments contract with the college to provide FAA-required classroom instruction and live fire training. The program is expected to provide training for more than 150 firefighters this year.
The college has contracted to provide the aircraft rescue firefighting services for Boeing, SeaTac, Salem, Eugene, Lewiston, Pasco, Sky Harbor (Phoenix), Spokane and Yakima.
The program is supported by the Washington Airport Managers Association and public safety divisions of airports throughout the Northwest.
The program is made possible by a partnership between the college, Port of Moses Lake and Federal Aviation Administration.
