City officials in Richland, Kennewick and Pasco say there’s a shortage of qualified lifeguards in the area.

There is one training class for lifeguard certifications with three openings left.

Potential lifeguards need to pass a pre-course swim test scheduled for May 26 between 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The five-day certification course begins May 31 and ends June 10. It runs from 4 to 7 p.m.

To register, go to www.go2kennewick.com and link to “Register Now” and Lifeguard Training Course. Cost is $156 and open to ages 15 years older.
