A new family of ducklings is expected to make the jump into the world Sunday morning in the eye of a webcam set up by the Richland Rod and Gun Club near West Richland and the Yakima River.

The wood duck babies hatched in a nest box Saturday morning. Because wood ducks do not feed their young, the mother encourages her babies to jump from the nest the morning after the hatch.

They likely will jump about 8 a.m., but possibly a little later, according to Dale Schielke, the club’s wood duck project coordinator.

The view from inside and outside the nest box can be seen at www.ustream.tv/channel/rrgc-outside and www.ustream.tv/channel/rrgc-duckcam.
