Democrats gather for Norm Miller dinner May 18

The Benton County Democrats will hold their annual leadership awards banquet at 5:30 p.m. May 18 at the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center.

Margaret Munro will receive the Norm Miller Democratic Leadership Award for her service to the local Democratic Party. The Rising Star Award will be presented to Leo Perales for his involvement in local political issues.

Dulce Gutierrez and Carmen Mendez of the Yakima City Council will give the keynote address, providing insight into Yakima’s conversion to district-based elections system following a court ruling.

Gutierrez and Mendez are among the first Hispanics elected to the Yakima council.
